Traffic on roads may consist of pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles, streetcars and other conveyances, either singly or together, while using the public way for purposes of travel. Traffic laws are the laws which govern traffic and regulate vehicles, while rules of the road are both the laws and the informal rules that may have developed over time to facilitate the orderly and timely flow of traffic. Organized traffic generally has well-established priorities, lanes, right-of-way, and traffic control at intersections. Traffic is formally organized in many jurisdictions, with marked lanes, junctions, intersections, interchanges, traffic signals, or signs. Traffic is often classified by type: heavy motor vehicle (e.g., car, truck); other vehicle (e.g., moped, bicycle); and pedestrian. Different classes may share speed limits and easement, or may be segregated. Some jurisdictions may have very detailed and complex rules of the road while others rely more on drivers' common sense and willingness to cooperate. Organization typically produces a better combination of travel safety and efficiency. Events which disrupt the flow and may cause traffic to degenerate into a disorganized mess include: road construction, collisions and debris in the roadway. On particularly busy freeways, a minor disruption may persist in a phenomenon known as traffic waves. A complete breakdown of organization may result in traffic jams and gridlock. Simulations of organized traffic frequently involve queuing theory, stochastic processes and equations of mathematical physics applied to traffic flow. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How do I request traffic school if I payed my traffic ticket online? Q. I really was confused when i went to the Lasuperiorcourt website and it was my first ticket. So I payed for my ticket in full online and then I realized i didnt request traffic school so now I don't know what to do. How do i request traffic school if my ticket is already paid. Asked by pedro0265@sbcglobal.net - Mon Jan 28 12:36:54 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Paying the ticket comes with an automatic plea of guilty. The case is now closed, and no further action (including traffic school) is possible. Next time, you will know... This was a "learning experience." Answered by Citicop - Mon Jan 28 12:43:20 2008 How bad would the traffic be for a daily commute between Worcester and Boston? Q. I know the drive without traffic is roughly an hour, but how much would traffic add if I wanted to commute from Worcester to Alewife station? If I was eventually trying to get to South Station would it be better to drive right there instead of taking the T from Alewife? I could take the train from Worcester but I'd rather drive if possible. Would taking a motorcycle making parking at Alewife any easier? Do they have dedicated motorcycle parking? Asked by Cliche - Sun Feb 22 21:08:59 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Driving from Worcester to Boston is pretty easy, if you hit the Pike at good traffic times. If you are coming in at the same time as everyone else, you can expect the journey to take you at least an hour and a half. After you get off the Pike at 95 it gets a little bottlenecked. Parking at Alewife would definitely be much easier - its five dollars a day but can get very full very quickly. Not to mention that the traffic on Alewife Brook Parkway at that intersection is horrendous at most any time of day. Routes 16, 3 and 2 all converge right outside Alewife, and everyone and their mother wants to get into Boston. You can expect backups on Rt 2 about a mile away from Alewife, and although it moves slowly, it is rarely ever totally… [cont.] Answered by Rebecca - Sun Feb 22 23:11:57 2009 What do you think is better for traffic control, roundabouts or traffic lights?
Q. I was in my car the other day stuck at a very busy roundabout and wondered if traffic would flow quicker if there were traffic lights instead. I didn't say anything about it being dangerous, just inconvenient in aline of traffic at roundabout. Asked by arjjim - Tue Sep 4 12:43:23 2007 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments A. Traffic lights because each entry point gets an equal opportunity, plus with todays transponders, if no traffic is approaching from one entry, that one stays on red so improving the flow from other directions.
